Digital Line Graph (DLG) data

MS-DOS software problem

The Digital Line Graph (DLG) data from the US Geologic Survey (USGS) are mounted for public Internet access via NFS or anonymous FTP. However, there are difficulties that prevent the MS-DOS DLG software from working with the 1:100,000 scale DLG data in the Internet.

The problem described below does not apply to the 1:2,000,000 scale DLG data.

We sent an electronic message to USGS requesting a minor software modification that would allow the 1:100,000 scale DLG data to be used in the Internet environment.

This in no way constitutes a criticism of the access software provided on the CD-ROMs. The software operates perfectly in the environment for which it was originally intended, namely a PC with a directly mounted CD-ROM reader.
