Customizing the PC menu system to use your own public data files

Customization of the PC menu system requires familiarity with MS-DOS.

In the PC menu system, particular software modules access individual databases, which are generally collections of remote CD-ROMs.

For example, the LBL file E:\batch\1990cen\1a\1a.bat specifies that STF1A data for AK,HI,OR and WA are on disk130, which is a CD-ROM located at LBL. Suppose you have installed a local copy of the same data, which has been integrated into the CD-ROM Information System as disk301.

To use your local copy, copy at least the files you need to change (for example E:\batch\1990cen\1a\1a.bat) to the local drive C:. Then change your local copy of 1a.bat to point to disk301 instead of disk130.

Note: The files in E:\mount\ and E:\batch\inform\location\ are frequently modified at LBL, to reflect the changing locations of public data in the CD-ROM Information System. It is necessary to use these files directly, or at least make sure the latest version is always available in your local C: drive.
