The tab-delimited format was specifically designed for loading into spreadsheets like Lotus 1-2-3 and Microsoft Excel. However, bugs in some Web browsers prevent the user from saving LOOKUP output data in a file, or mailing the data in an attachment. Mailing the data as quoted text may convert tabs to spaces, which is inconvenient. See browser-dependent bugs.
If your spreadsheet or database program can accept data in a fixed field format, the "codata" output format may be more convenient for you.
