As of 5/18/96, there are no known LOOKUP bugs specific to current versions of Netscape PROVIDED one uses LOOKUP version 1.4, which is currently installed on www.census.gov and venus.census.gov (only).
If you run into problems with Netscape, please try LOOKUP version 1.4 and report any problems to lookup@census.gov.
The rest of this page is of historical interest only.
2.1.2.2 -
With Mac Netscape Navigator 1.1N:
Unable to access the data (CGI server error--"cod_read_data passed a
codata containing no DE's".)
(whitesh@mindspring.com 8/3/95)
(James.D.Sargent@dartmouth.edu 8/23/95)
(trob@well.com 8/24/95 with Mozilla 1.1N (Macintosh; I; 68K))
(ptautfest@mail.h.provi.de 10/8/95 with Mozilla 1.1N (Macintosh; I; PPC))
(karaasla@bigvax.alfred.edu 10/27/95 with Mozilla 1.1N (Macintosh; I; 68K))
(kkharding@mail.utexas.edu 11/6/95 with Mozilla 1.1N (Macintosh; I; 68K))
This problem occurs with LOOKUP 1.3.0b.
Update Mac Netscape Navigator to a later version.
2.1.2.3 -
With Mac Netscape 1.1, feedback messages (which go to lookup@census.gov) are
properly received by Chris Stuber but not by Deane Merrill. Deane Merrill
receives only the header, with an empty message body. This problem is
similar to a problem observed with feedback messages in MacWeb.
The problem is probably associated with the absence of line feeds in the
transmitted file.
(Chabran@latino.sscnet.ucla.edu 8/21/95)
2.1.2.4 -
With Mac Netscape, error is:
CGI Server Error: POST - /date=809101086 Exit val: 139.
(boykin@gte.com with Mozilla 1.1N (Macintosh; I; 68K) 8/22/95)
Can anyone reproduce this problem?
There were
known problems
in the production of the STF3A CDs for New England states.
The defective CDs were replaced on 10/18/95.
2.1.2.5 -
With Mac Netscape, tabs are not preserved in data files saved in
tab-delimited format.
(dwmerrill@lbl.gov 5/7/95)
This problem occurs with Mac Netscape but not Xwindows or MS Windows Netscape.
("Save As" does not work at all with MS Windows Netscape, but the files in
the Netscape cache do have tabs.)
This problem occurs with "File" and "Save As..." even if
"Format for Saved Document" is "Source".
This problem occurs with LOOKUP 1.3.0b.
Use the LOOKUP Codata output format, which is a fixed-field format.
Or use Xwindows Netscape, or use another browser.
2.1.2.6 -
With Mac Netscape for the Power PC,
error is CGI Server ERROR: "****SSTRDUP called with NULL ptr".
(cortinas@nssl.uoknor.edu 10/29/95 with Mozilla 1.1N (Macintosh; I; PPC))
Is this the latest PPC version of Netscape?
Can anyone else reproduce this problem?
