Novell NFS Client for LAN WorkPlace

Novell's LAN WorkPlace for DOS version 4.1 includes NFS Client for LAN WorkPlace, which provides simultaneous access to the Novell local area network and to the Internet via NFS.

At UC Berkeley, the campus has site licensed the Novell NFS client software for distribution free to UCB students and personnel. Instructions for local installation are available from UCB Workstation Software Support (drmicro@garnet.berkeley.edu).

The preceding information was provided in late 1994 by Gary Peete (gpeete@library.berkeley.edu) and Karl Grose (krgrose@uclink.berkeley.edu).

LAN WorkPlace version 4.2 became available in 1995.

Unfortunately, Lan Workplace, unlike most other NFS clients, requires authentication by a server other than the user's PC. The username "nobody" will not work.

Due to potential security problems and the administrative effort required, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) will NOT provide authentication services for non-LBNL NFS users.

If you cannot arrange for Novell NFS authentication by a server at your own institution, please choose a different NFS client. A client that has been recommended recently (as late 1995) is FTP Software's NFS Client (InterDrive 95) for Windows 95.
