Descendants of William Allen Sr. (b.abt.1730)

The relationships of all persons mentioned are explained below.

Descendants of William Allen Sr. [1.1] were responsible for the fatal shooting of a Judge, a Sheriff, and Attorney and two other persons in the Carroll County, Virginia Court House in Hillsville, Virginia, on March 14, 1912.

In 1911, Sidna EDWARDS [1.1.1.2.6.7.4] and Wesley EDWARDS [1.1.1.2.6.7.5] were arrested in Mount Airy, North Carolina for disturbing public worship. They were being forcibly returned to Hillsville, Virginia when they were freed by their uncle Floyd ALLEN [1.1.1.2.6.5]. Floyd was put on trial for interfering with officers of the law. On March 14, 1912, in the Carroll County Court House in Hillsville, Virginia, the Allens and Edwards were involved in the fatal shooting of five persons including a Judge, the County Sheriff, an attorney, a juryman, and a witness. Three other persons, including Floyd ALLEN [1.1.1.2.6.5] and Sidna ALLEN [1.1.1.2.6.9], were wounded. For their role in the shooting, Floyd ALLEN [1.1.1.2.6.5] and his son Claude ALLEN [1.1.1.2.6.5.3] were executed; Sidna ALLEN [1.1.1.2.6.9] was given a 35 year sentence but pardoned in 1926. Friel ALLEN [1.1.1.2.6.6.8] received an 18 year sentence. Wesley EDWARDS [1.1.1.2.6.7.5] was given a 27 year sentence. Jack ALLEN [1.1.1.2.6.6] was murdered in 1916.
