In 1977-1978, Fred Gey, Burt Albrecht, Edna Williams and Donn Davy processed a special tabulation of the 1970 Census of Population 5th count, for enumeration districts and block groups (ED/BGs), minor civil divisions (MCDs), and census tracts. The corresponding SEEDIS geographic levels are BGED70, MCD70, and TRACT. The data files in QWIK QWERY format were copied to GSS tapes in the active tape library. The tape numbers are given below.

Data are available at the following geographic levels. Only the BGED70 level data are installed in SEEDIS. The BGED70, MCD70, and TRACT level data cover 3140 counties, 2568 counties, and 465 counties respectively. Together the MCD70 and TRACT data cover 2568+465=3033 counties.

The copies on MSS were copied to seedis.census.gov in 1996-7, and deleted in 1998. The original 7-track tapes were transferred to the Federal Records Archive around 1980, and stored at Nor-Cal in 1997.
The single best copy of each tape was saved on seedis.census.gov in the following locations. One VMS block is 512 bytes.
