Tapes processed in the archiving activity of the PAREP project are being archived in the LBL mass storage system (MSS).
The first tapes archived, beginning in January 1994, were those which were created prior to 1980 in the LBL Gettape Stotape System (GSS) format. Out of approximately 700 GSS tapes, about 600 have been successfully archived.
Beginning in May 1994, we began processing tapes in the DEC VMS backup (BCK) format. Out of approximately 300 BCK tapes, about 200 have been successfully archived.
The remaining 1000 tapes, of which 500 have been pre-processed, are in other formats, primarily fixed-block EBCDIC and ASCII.
