electronic version by

Deane Merrill, revised October 2011

The electronic document described here was scanned from a 600-page book that Doris Wheeler gave to Deane Merrill in July 2000.  Revisions since that date are not included.  The book contains four introductory pages, a 16-page handwritten surname index, a 147-page main index organized by cemetery section number, and the book itself with 447 pages.

More recent information, maintained by Doris Wheeler, is in a 12,000-card file at the Shelburne Historical Society.  For the latest version, please contact Doris Wheeler through the Society.

HOW TO LOCATE A TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTION

If you know the person's last name, first consult the 16-page handwritten surname index and note the corresponding book page numbers. The page order in the handwritten index is irregular.

pages surnames
1-11 A-N
12 R, Q, O
13 SH-STO
14 STR-SW, SA-SE
15-16 T-Z

In addition, not all entries in the main index are included in the handwritten index. In particular, some surnames beginning with S, for example Smith, are missing from the handwritten index.

Use the main index (below) to find the page image(s) for those book page numbers.

If you are familiar with the cemetery, first consult the section map to find the cemetery section number.  Then use the main index (below) to find the record(s) for that cemetery section.

There is also an incomplete electronic surname index in XLS spreadsheet format, which will take you directly to the main index pages and book pages of interest.  The electronic surname index includes only a few selected surnames.

MAIN INDEX

The 147-page main index, from June 2000, lists the book pages for each cemetery section.  The 447-page book, from March 1999, lists complete gravestone inscriptions, by plot within section number.  Plot numbers are available from Snow's Landscaping in Greenfield, Massachusetts or (for older plots) from the Shelburne Historical Society.

Two-thirds of the book pages, those with hyperlinks below, are presently on line.  All back side page images immediately follow the corresponding front side page images.  To have additional pages put on line, please contact Deane Merrill, dwmerrill@charter.net.
