What is Find A Grave?

Find A Grave is an international genealogy search tool used to research ancestral roots through burial records and visual identification. The memorials are set up by families as well as volunteers. There are, in most case, photographs of the headstones and a history of the person's date of birth, date of death and place of burial; depending on the extent of the research by the manager and availability of records.

Anyone can search this site. You can search by name of the person or by the name of the cemetery, or by the country, state and county. You do not have to be a member to do so and there is NO fee. Volunteers are requested to take photos of headstones by family researchers. The photos are then uploaded to that person's Memorial Page.

There are cemeteries from all parts of the United States and other countries. This is a vital archaeological project, given that cemeteries are becoming obsolete and the oldest stones, which are archaeological evidence, are deteriorating or being vandalized.

You can find extensive information for the Hilltowns in Franklin County, MA at this time, specially for Shelburne, Buckland, Charlemont, Ashfield, Hawley, East Hawley, Heath, Plainfield, Colrain, Deerfield and Greenfield, to name a few. Work has begun on Berkshire County in 2011 for Florida and Drury.
