Indexes and File Locations of Arms Cemetery Records
This file describes gravestone records from Arms Cemetery,
Shelburne Falls, Franklin county, Massachusetts. The records are located at the Shelburne
Historical Society (SHS), also in Shelburne Falls.
The original records are on 12,000 two-sided 3x5 index cards created by Doris Wheeler. Partial indexes and selected images have been placed on line for the convenience of users. To use these files, users will need:
NetZip or Winzip for unpacking ZIP archives
NetZip or Microsoft Excel for reading XLS spreadsheets
Paperport Viewer for viewing images in Paperport MAX format
You should first install the three programs above. Then download files from the table below and analyze them in your own computer. Make sure you can view the installed files before requesting that additional files be put on line.
The example given here is for surname BARDWELL.
A WinZip ZIP archive, for example bardwell/bardwell.zip, contains an Excel XLS spreadsheet bardwell.xls and Paperport MAX image files bardw00a.max, bardw00b.max, etc. Cards were scanned three at a time, front and back, at 300 dpi. The files *a.max and *b.max (for example bardw00a.max and bardw00b.max) contain the front and back images, respectively. Consult the spreadsheet, for example bardwell/bardwell.xls to learn which cards are on which Paperport MAX image files.

There is also a global index, about 15% complete (tab-delimited ASCII text). Best viewed with Microsoft Excel. The global index describes the contents of all 12,000 cards, including those not on line.
Images for 225 cards in five surnames (2% of the total) are presently on line. Please contact Deane Merrill (merrill@crocker.com) to have additional surnames placed on line. Your patience will be appreciated.
